The Nel Drip isn’t for when you are in a hurry. It’s for when you want to connect (deeply) with the process. With its flannel filter, wooden handle, and careful pace, this traditional Japanese method turns brewing into ceremony. It’s gentle, rich, and quietly complex. The kind of coffee that asks you to sit down and stay a while.
At Crush and Rise, we love Nel Drip for what it represents: time, patience, and a deep respect for every step that came before yours.
You Will Need
Fresh, medium-coarse Crush And Rise coffee
Nel Drip filter + holder
Kettle (ideally gooseneck)
A deep-bellied mug
A few extra minutes
The Basics
Ratio: 1g coffee : 15g water
Grind: Medium-fine, like rough sand
Water Temp: 90-93ºC
Time: 5-6 minutes
How to Brew
1
Soak and rinse your flannel filter with hot water, then fit it into the holder.
2
Add your ground coffee, leveling gently.
3
Start your timer. Begin pouring slowly, allowing the coffee to bloom for 30-45 seconds.
4
Continue in slow, circular motions, pouring a little at a time. This method rewards patience.
5
Let the water pass through naturally, don’t rush the drip.
6
Once it’s done, remove the filter and enjoy the quiet complexity in your cup.
Why It Matters
Nel Drip invites you into stillness. It asks for care, presence, and intention, the same values that guide everything we do at Crush and Rise. It’s not about convenience. It’s about connection: to the bean, the craft, and the moment. This is coffee that honors the process and that’s exactly how real change begins.
